How to Spot Hidden Rust Before It Becomes a Big Problem

Rust doesn't always start where you can see it. By the time paint starts bubbling, the damage is often well advanced. Here's how our panel beaters check for early-stage corrosion.

Why Early Detection Matters

Surface rust can be treated with a light sand and repaint. But rust that has penetrated the metal or spread beneath paint requires panel replacement – a significantly more expensive job.

Where to Look

  • Wheel arches and sill panels
  • Boot floor and door floor sections
  • Chassis rails and underbody seams
  • Around sunroofs and windscreen trims

What We Do at Spot On

Our rust assessment includes a full underbody inspection, sill probing, and moisture testing on interior floor sections. We provide a written report with photos before any repair work begins – so there are no surprises.

We often see rust that has been masked by touch-up paint or undercoat spray. The bubbling doesn’t show yet – but it’s there.
